Administrator Account Request
Employee User Security Policy at Adams State University
As a campus standard, Computing Services operates under the "least privilege user" model of security on Employee computing. This model uses the principle that security access levels should be granted at the lowest level needed in order to perform job function. As such, all employee computers, by default, run as standard Windows users.
In most cases, even when users need specialized software installed or changes made to their system, Computing Services is usually able to accommodate those requests simply by sending a technician out to assist. However, in the event that a user needs to have administrative privileges for tasks such as advanced system configuration, software installation, etc., Computing Services can grant exceptions to this standard. These exceptions must be approved by both the department chair/head of the user as well as the CIO of Computing Services.
Process for requesting a local administrator account on an employee computer at ASU
Once reasonable attempts have been made to resolve the issue with a Computing Services technician, if it is determined that a local administrative account needs to be setup, the employee must read the Administrator Access Policy and print-out and fill out the form that can be accessed by visiting the CS policy page here.
If the request is approved by the supervisor/department chair and the CIO, a workorder should be put in to have the local administrative account and training received.
Any questions regarding this can be sent to the ASU Computing Services Helpdesk at computingservices@adams.edu or by calling us at x7741.
