What is Myfiles.adams.edu?

Did you know that you can access your home directory from anywhere through a web browser? Adams State has a system that allows remote login so you can access your files stored on our network! All you have to do is go to myfiles.adams.edu and log in with your student or staff account. Myfiles.adams.edu (we will just call it "MyFiles") has built in features that make uploading, downloading and editing your files easy. MyFiles has many useful features and there is a lot to it, below are some walkthroughs of some of those useful features.

The Basics

Lets start by going over the user interface. Go to Myfiles.adams.edu and log in with your Adams State account. This can be a student, staff or even your workstudy account. Log in as if you are logging into your computer or your OneStop account.

The MyFiles user interface is designed to look a lot like the folder structure on most computers. The files and folders that are on this page are the same that you would find if you logged into a lab computer with your student credentials. Staff and faculty will also have access to their shared directories through this interface. You can open folders and check files just like you would if these were files directly on your computer. Certain directories will take longer to load depending on the size of the contents in the folder you are opening.If you have a staff or workstudy account and you want to see shared directories that you have access to, you can switch directories by clicking in the upper left corner and switching "home" to "shared"

There are multiple functions available once you are in the user interface. We will go over all of the following options.

  Allows sharing of files via distributable links

  Downloads files to your computer

  Uploads files to MyFiles

  View or edit files within MyFiles

Share Button

The share function allows users to distribute links so that other users can access files via download hyperlinks. When the desired folder is highlighted, right click and select the "share" button. The next window will allow you to set how long the link is active, download limits and even a password for the file. Clicking "Generate" will give you a web link that you can email to friends or colleagues as well as giving you the option to stop sharing.

Computing Services strongly recommends password protecting and expiring your downloads.

Uploads files and folders to MyFiles. Note: You can also drag and drop folders into the MyFiles interface.

View/Edit

This allows you to preview pictures within the browser. MyFiles comes with "Pixlr Image Editor" which can be used to edit files without even downloading them. Pixlr has many functions useful to standard image editing. This is a good alternative to downloading, editing and uploading the new image. You don't even need to leave your browser in order to edit pictures anymore!

Mobile Applications

There are mobile apps for both Android and iOS devices. Below is an overview of both.

The iOS version of Ajax Explorer is available in the marketplace. Once you download and install, you will get a screen asking for set up information. The server address is http://myfiles.adams.edu, your username and password are the same as what you use to log into a computer.

Adams State requires users with institutional data to encrypt their devices. In order to insure information integrity, please encrypt Ajax information by selecting the lock in the bottom right corner of the screen and creating a password.
