Safe Connect - Moving a Device Between Policy Groups
Moving a device between open and blocked access can be useful when trying to troubleshooting an end user’s device or if a device is exiting suspicious behavior. Changing group policy can be done on a device’s details page. The options to block or open a device are in the upper-right corner of the window.
Granting open access
Select the open access button in the upper-right corner of the screen. This should open a small form as displayed below. In the form you can set the exemption as permanent or set a time limit anywhere from a minute to two years. The exemption can be chosen by IP or MAC address. For students it is highly recommended the MAC address is used. The “Why” field is just a brief description of why this exemption was put in place. To remove this exception select the unopen button on the details page for this device.
Select the block access button in the upper-left corner of the screen. This will open up a small form as displayed below. You can set the block to never expire or expire anywhere from one minute to two years. The block can be based off of the user name of the currently logged in user, the IP address this device is currently using, or the MAC address of the current machine. The “Why” text box can be used for a brief description for the reason of the block or it can be used to send a message to the user. This can be done by typing “REMARK” and then the desired message. When you would like to remove the block select the ublock button in the upper-right corner of the device’s details page.
