Scan for Channels

You will need to scan for channels before you can see the full channel listing. Please note: All TV manufacturers differ, so menu options, wording and other items may vary. The best way to complete the channel scan is to refer to the TV owner's manual. If that is unavailable, the following general steps should guide you through the process.

  1. Using your television's remote control, press the Menu or Settings option.
    1. Note: a "Smart TV" may have a smart button that must be used to access the settings menu. It will generally have the manufacturer's logo on it.
  2. Locate Channels or Tuner Set Up option.
  3. Check the menu for an option of Antenna Type or Connection Type followed by either Antenna or Cable.
  4. Make sure that the designated setting is Cable (based on manufacturer, alternate choices may include Digital Cable, CATV or Cable STD)
  5. From the menu, choose Digital Channel Search (based on manufacturer, alternate choices may include Channel Scan, Channel Search or Autoprogram.)
  6. Allow the TV to complete the search. You will see a bar listing how many channels have been found. The process may take up to an hour.
  7. Once complete, confirm the menu prompt, then press an exit or quit option.

Having trouble with your Cable TV Service? Here are some troubleshooting tips!

  • Make sure the coaxial cable connecting your TV to the wall jack is secure and undamaged.
  • Make sure your input on your TV is correctly set.
  • Re-scan for channels. Refer to your TV user manual for instructions.
    • Your TV must support clear-QAM digital TV signals. Refer to your TV user manual or Google to check if you TV is digital or analog. If your TV only supports analog signal you will need an analog to digital converter box. TVs labeled as containing a clear-QAM digital tuner do not require a converter box. An ATSC digital tuner will not work. The ATSC tuner is for over the air reception of digital TV via an antenna.
    • CampusTelevideo has provided a list of known problem TV sets on their FAQ page.
    • The cable vendor recommended converter box for an Analog or non clear-QAM digital TV is the Iview 3500STBII Digital TV Converter Box.

If you are still unable to view any channels please report the issue to your Residence Assistant or Residence Director.

Cable TV Repair Process

  1. Issues with Cable TV must be reported to an RA or RD. The RA or RD will assist the resident with basic troubleshooting.
  2. If basic troubleshooting does not resolve the issue, the RA or RD will notify the main housing office, who will submit a ticket to the telecom team on behalf of the student. The main housing office must submit the ticket as the budget code is required for the ticket.
  3. The telecom team will perform repair on physical cable infrastructure.

Note: Tickets cannot be submitted without appropriate troubleshooting from RA/RD staff.
